Facility
Melanesian
Hyperbaric is your professional full service recompression centre located
in Port Moresby. The system was been built to international design regulations
(ASME. PVHO-1) in Australia and is a 54-inch twin lock with 60 msw / 195
fsw depth capability.
The
facility is manned by inside attendants, (Registered Nurses who have received
extra training in Hyperbaric Nursing), and Hyperbaric Technicians. The
technicians came from various backgrounds, some had been trained by the
Royal Australian Navy (RAN) whilst others come from both civilian and
PNG Defence Force backgrounds.
The facility
is run by a regional company Melanesian Hyperbaric Services (MHS), a part
of the international network, Subaquatic Safety Services (SSS) Recompression
Facilities. The facility is located at the international airport, Jackson's
Field. Medevac aircraft are able to taxi to within 100 metres of the chamber
and the Niugini Air Rescue aero-medical treatment and examination room.
Medical
services are provided by doctors, who have had Hyperbaric Medicine training
with the RAN, whilst others recently received their training in country
or by the Doctor (Anaesthetist) on staff with Niugini Air Rescue. Either
the government run or the new private hospital are only 10 minutes away
from our new facility.
The MHS recompression
chamber is a listed as an IDAN referral centre.
